In November Bridgend College won the Welsh College’s tournament for the second year in a row to move on further to the British College’s Championships in March 2013.

There was a lot of preparation done prior to the championships as Captain Nick Gray lead Bridgend College to the Championships in 2012. As soon as the Welsh Colleges were over, Bridgend College instantly went into training physically and mentally for the tournament.

Friday 22ndsaw Bridgend College face Wyggeston & QE from the East Midlands. As it was the first of the volleyball matches for the weekend, a large crowed appeared in the stands to cheer both sides on as they battled itout in a two set match. Nerves got the better of Bridgend College in the first set as they lost by a clear margin. As the second set went underway, it was clear to see that the nerves had gone and Bridgend were up to an 8 point leadas Wyggeston call a time out late in the set. As the set progressed, Bridgend carried on fighting and won to make it a 1-1 draw.

The next 3 games that Bridgend had to play in Pool A were against Holy Cross College, Leyton 6thForm College and New College Pontefract. All these three games were also drawn1-1 in sets meaning that Bridgend placed 3rd in Pool A.

Saturday evening saw Bridgend College play the 4thposition of Pool B to determine where they would place for a playoff match Sunday morning. Bridgend were faced against a tall COLVIC side from East England. As fellow Coleg Morganwg cheeredBridgend on throughout the both sets, Bridgend were winning comfortably fromboth start to finish meaning that they won the match 2-0.

Sunday morning sawBridgend College face Middlesbrough College in a 5th&6thplayoff match. Bridgend entered this game unbeaten whereas Middlesbrough hadwon and lost games. There was a large crowd and loud atmosphere as bothBridgend and Middlesbrough battled against each other fighting for every ball.Unfortunately, Middlesbrough came out on top to win the game 25-18 & 25-23 meaning that Bridgend College placed 6thin the Championships 3 places better than last year.

“It was a pleasure playing on such a hardworking team who put100% effort in for each point, we only lost one game over the weekend which isan achievement some teams couldn’t do!” Nick Gray (Captain)

“I was proud to be part of the team, we definitely made our presence felt with ourchanting, would happily do it all over again! The teams we played against gaveus a good game but we were no push overs and fought til the end, OH FLUFFYSHEEP!” Kearn Foster

The Girls Report written by Coach Mrs Webb

This year Bath University hosted the 35thAnnual Championships of British Colleges Sport. The competition welcomed over 2500 competitors and staff. In November Coleg Morgannwg's Girls Volleyball Team became Welsh College Champions and Qualified for the British Final.

Due to poor facilities, school and work commitments little preparation was done before the Championships. On day one the girls attended the Opening Ceremony and took part in a Harlem Shake, they later went on to perform brilliantly winning their first match against Yorkshire. Day two saw more wins and draws with the girls gaining confidence every match. Our last game in the pool saw a draw against the impressive South West team where the girls were the only team to take a set off them.

Coleg Morgannwg were placed 3rdin the pool leaving them two play matches. The girls won both of these games against the North West and the South East giving them a 5thplace overall.

Huge congratulations to the girls undefeated the entire weekend, we look forward to the challenge of qualifying next year to improve on this ranking.

The team with Mrs. Webb, (coach) and Tom Dacey, (assistant coach)
